Moscato Rosa: One of our favorite red dessert wines is this Moscato Rosa. The varietal is named rosa not for its color, but for the rose petal fragrance of the grapes. “Praepositus” is Abbazia di Novacella’s premium line, wines made from its oldest vines. Their Moscato Rosa imparts the expected floral notes, rich strawberry and raspberry jam aromas and tastes, and a touch of licorice and bramble. The wine is sweet, but marginally so. Acid, moderate tannins, light spiciness, and a shade of bitterness strike a wonderful balance. There are only about 1,500 375ml bottles produced per year.
